He was welcomed by Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of South Africa who will host this year’s summit in Johannesburg on Tuesday which will run from August 22 to 24.

BRICS — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa — currently creates up a quarter of the global economy and also contain more than 40 percent of the world’s population.

2023 marks 25 years of diplomatic relations between South Africa and China, Ramaphosa writes in his weekly column.

Ramaphosa said that our country has a significant deal to learn from China’s growth route. Among other accomplishments, China has raised nearly 800 million people out of poverty over 40 years, he added.

Xi will join Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the Brazilian President, and Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister, who will attend the BRICS summit in Johannesburg.
