Team India hit with a big blow as KL Rahul, a wicketkeeper-batsman has been ruled out of the match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023.

Rahul couldn’t able to heal from a niggle will be out of the Pakistan Vs India clash on September 2 and India vs Nepal match on September 4, Rahul Dravid, the head coach of Team India confirmed on Tuesday.

Indian coach told the media that both, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, are in the same boat. We are a little careful with KL. We are expecting he will only skip the first two matches and will be fit for the later matches of the Asia Cup.

Indian opening batsman has been pulled out of international cricket with a thigh injury for which he underwent surgery after the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain played 54 matches with an average of 45.13 in ODI cricket and scored 1,986 runs with 5 hundreds and 13 fifties.

Due to suspicions over Rahul’s availability, Sanju Samson has been picked as a traveling reserve for the upcoming tournament. With Rahul out for the first two contests, Ishan Kishan could do wicketkeeping in the clash against Pakistan and Nepal in Kandy.

However, there was some pleasing news for the Indian fans as Dravid confirmed that Shreyas Iyer is shaping up nicely ahead of the Asia Cup.
