Russian President Vladimir Putin won’t attend funeral of Wagner boss Prigozhin

Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia has no schedule to attend the funeral of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the group leader of Wagner mercenary, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. The Kremlin did not comprehend the intended funeral arrangements, he said, adding that this was a concern for the family.

Yevgeny Prigozhin died in an aircraft crashed last week, months after he directed an aborted rebellion against Russian military commanders in which they seized dominion of a southern city, Rostov.

The mercenaries also moved towards Moscow before turning back 200 km from the Russian capital. Putin had then condemned the revolt as “treason” but Prigozhin exited any counterattack by the Kremlin under an agreement brokered to finish the rebellion.

Earlier, the Kremlin denied the recommendation by some Western politicians and commentators that Russian President Vladimir Putin called Prigozhin to be murdered in retribution criticizing them as an “absolute lie”.

Last week, Putin sent his condolences to the family of Prigozhin breaking his quietness after the aircraft collision.

This appears as an ex-British espionage officer said that he once obtained details about an agreement that had been put out on Yevgeny Prigozhin, the boss of Wagner.

Christopher Steele told Sky News that he had heard some weeks ago from an anonymous source that an agreement had been put out on Prigozhin in Russia by senior members of the business community.

But it looks as though it may reasonably be a retribution invasion by someone in the elite, maybe someone very senior, he added.
