President Joe Biden to Maintain Masking Precautions After First Lady’s Mild Covid-19 Infection

Despite testing negative for Covid-19 for the second time, U.S. President Joe Biden will maintain a cautious approach by wearing a mask. This decision comes as a preventive measure following the detection of a mild COVID-19 infection in First Lady Jill Biden earlier in the day, leading to uncertainty surrounding the President’s travel plans.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre informed reporters that “Joe Biden also tested negative during a check-up on Monday and is not experiencing any symptoms.” However, she clarified that since the President had been in close proximity to his wife on Monday, he would adhere to government health guidance by wearing a mask indoors and in the presence of others.

Jean-Pierre elaborated, stating, “The president will remove his mask when sufficiently distanced from others indoors and while outside as well.”

Regarding the President’s masking plans for the upcoming G20 summit in New Delhi and contingency measures in case of a positive Covid-19 test during the foreign trip, Jean-Pierre did not provide specific details but emphasized, “The president certainly is going to test on a regular cadence.”

Meanwhile, First Lady Jill Biden, who is experiencing “only mild symptoms,” according to her office, will continue to stay at the couple’s private residence in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Notably, she had last tested positive for Covid a year ago.

As President Biden prepares for a potential second bid for the Oval Office in 2024, concerns about his age have emerged as a significant issue among voters. Joe Biden is the oldest president to seek a second term, but his supporters maintain that he remains physically capable of serving in the White House.

Jill Biden’s positive diagnosis underscores the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic, emphasizing the continued importance of vigilance and precautionary measures. The United States has witnessed a recent uptick in Covid cases and hospitalizations in recent weeks, further emphasizing the need for continued diligence.
