On Tuesday, French regulators called Apple to stop sales of the iPhone 12 for ejecting too much electromagnetic radiation and to restore existing handsets.
The ANFR, the French agency that controls radio frequencies, said testing discovered that the model ejects more electromagnetic waves sensitive to be absorbed by the body than allowed.
The ANFR said it ordered Apple to pull the iPhone 12 from the French market on September 12 due to the model surpassing the limit for electromagnetic absorption by the body.
It added that accredited labs had discovered absorption of electromagnetic energy by the body at 5.74 watts per kilogram during tests simulating when the phone was being kept in the hand or kept in a pocket.
The European standard is a precise absorption rate of 4.0 watts per kilogram in such tests.
The ANFR said in a statement on its website that affecting phones already sold, Apple must in the shortest of pauses take correctional steps to get the concerned phones into compliance. Otherwise, Apple will have to recall them, it added.
ANFR stated that tests that estimate the electromagnetic radiation absorbed at a space of five centimeters complied with the limitation of 2.0 watts per kilogram. It added that
ANFR said its agents would confirm beginning Wednesday that iPhone 12 models were no longer being suggested for sale in France.
When reached by AFP, Apple urged in a statement that it is respectful of direction limits and would continue to engage with the French regulator to show that.
Regulators in several nations have limits on the amount of electromagnetic radiation mobile phones may emit to stop damaging health outcomes.
The World Health Organization states on its website that following a large number of studies “no damaging health outcomes have been established as being generated by mobile phone use.”
