Actor and film producer Ashton Kutcher has announced his resignation from his role on the board of an anti-child sex abuse organization. This decision comes in the wake of severe backlash and his subsequent apology for supporting his former “That ’70s Show” co-star Danny Masterson, who has since been convicted of rape.
Ashton Kutcher and his wife, Mila Kunis, had previously written letters to the judge advocating for Danny Masterson, who was ultimately found guilty of raping two women in 2001 and 2003 and received a 30-year to life prison sentence.
Reports from The Mirror indicate that Kutcher has chosen to step down from his position within the anti-child sex abuse organization.
In his resignation letter, Kutcher stated, “After my wife and I spent several days listening, engaging in personal reflection, learning, and having conversations with survivors, as well as with the employees and leadership at Thorn, I have come to the decision that the responsible course of action is to resign as Chairman of the Board, effective immediately.”
He further elaborated that he could not allow his own lapse in judgment to divert attention from the organization’s critical mission of assisting vulnerable children.
Kutcher emphasized his steadfast commitment to combating sexual exploitation, expressing regret that his character reference for Danny Masterson inadvertently cast doubt on the victims rather than the perpetrators.
Concluding his resignation letter, Ashton Kutcher extended heartfelt apologies to anyone who may have been hurt by his previous letter of support. He also expressed his deep gratitude to Thorn for their relentless advocacy, compassion, and unwavering dedication in the fight against child sex abuse.
