Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has thrown his support behind comedian and actor Russell Brand, decrying what he sees as a troubling trend of “witch hunting” in contemporary society.
Musk voiced his concerns during a conversation with Ben Shapiro, emphasizing the significance of upholding principles like the presumption of innocence and the need for a fair trial. “There needs to be, obviously, a conviction here. It can’t be guilty until proven innocent because obviously, we’re just sort of in the phase of accusing people without evidence, and that’s enough to tarnish their reputation,” Musk remarked.
The SpaceX founder went on to question the timing of the allegations against Brand, implying that they might be a strategic move to undermine the comedian’s increasing influence and his penchant for challenging conventional wisdom. Musk stated, “It appears to be a rather convenient coincidence that these allegations are surfacing at a time when Russell is gaining momentum and challenging conventional wisdom.”
He further added, “It seems like we’re running out of conspiracy theories that didn’t turn out to be true.”
The allegations against Russell Brand first came to light on September 16, when a bombshell exposé jointly published by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4 Dispatches claimed that the actor and comedian had sexually assaulted four women between 2006 and 2013, during his tenure as a BBC presenter and Hollywood actor.
In response to these serious allegations, Russell Brand took a preemptive stance and denied them in a video posted on YouTube and across his social media platforms, including X. Notably, it was on one of these posts that Elon Musk offered his support for Brand, commenting, “Of course. They don’t like competition,” suggesting that mainstream media may have ulterior motives.
