“Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 2” Release Date Pushed Back Amid SAG-AFTRA Strike Concerns

The ongoing labor strike within SAG-AFTRA is having a far-reaching impact on the entertainment industry, with “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 2,” a highly anticipated Paramount blockbuster, being the latest project to be affected. The release date for the next installment in the iconic spy franchise has been rescheduled from June 2024 to May 23, 2025.

This postponement follows the release of Tom Cruise’s recent film, “Dead Reckoning,” which, despite receiving favorable reviews from both audiences and critics, did not perform as expected at the box office.

In the midst of this, discussions between the union and the studios have reached an impasse. A coalition of A-list actors, led by George Clooney, is urging the guild to return to the negotiating table. Clooney, a prominent figure in the industry, expressed his dedication to finding a resolution, stating, “A lot of the top earners want to be part of the solution.”

He shared the group’s proposals, which include removing the cap on union dues, a change that would contribute more than $50 million annually to the union and an estimated total of over $150 million over the next three years.

Additionally, their suggestions involve revising the residual payment structure, prioritizing lower-billed actors to receive residuals ahead of the lead actors, ensuring a fair and equitable distribution of earnings in the industry. These measures aim to promote a sense of shared responsibility and fairness among all professionals in the entertainment business.
