Spotify Unveils 200,000 Free Audiobooks, Including Britney Spears’s ‘Woman in Me’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’

In a little over a year since Spotify dipped its toes into the world of audiobooks, the streaming giant has expanded its offerings, granting premium members access to a treasure trove of almost 200,000 titles. With an additional option for ten more hours of listening at a nominal fee of $12.99, Spotify aims to redefine the audiobook experience for its dedicated audience.

Previously, using the Spotify app to dive into the world of audiobooks required a separate payment. However, now, premium subscribers enjoying the perks of ad-free access can revel in 15 hours of audiobook content each month, a substantial upgrade from the previous limitations.

Spotify, in an official press release, assured users that the 15-hour limit “should get you around two average audiobooks per month,” introducing a new dimension to its premium service.

The expanded audiobook library boasts a diverse collection, including bestsellers like Britney Spears’ “The Woman in Me” and Bonnie Garmus’ “Lessons in Chemistry.” Classics such as “The Lord of the Rings” and Stephen King’s “It” add a timeless allure to the selection. Notably, seven out of the current top ten books on the New York Times best sellers list for fiction and nonfiction are available for free streaming on Spotify, according to CNBC Make It.

Carefully curated, the audiobook catalog caters to a broad audience, featuring options for both first-time listeners and seasoned audiobook enthusiasts looking for engaging content during their commutes.

As of now, the premium version of Spotify comes with a price tag of $10.99 for single users, $14.99 for pairs, and $16.99 for family accounts. Additionally, students can enjoy Spotify Premium at a discounted rate of $5.99 per month.

A September poll by Spotify revealed that 72% of Gen Z and Millennials actively engage with audiobooks. Furthermore, those who partake in audiobooks are more likely to remain on the platform and consume a higher volume of audio content, according to Spencer (2017). The enriched audiobook library aligns with Spotify’s strategic efforts to cater to the preferences of these demographics, offering a captivating auditory journey for users old and new.
