Prince Harry has opened up in his memoir ‘Spare,’ sharing heartfelt sentiments about his late mother, Princess Diana, and reflecting on significant moments in his life.
In a poignant recollection after completing his Apache helicopter training, Prince Harry described a disorienting incident while circling London at night. Blinded momentarily by a laser pen from the ground, he chose to be grateful for the experience, considering it valuable practice.
Delving into the past, Harry reminisced about Princess Diana’s boyfriend’s father, Mohamed Al Fayed, who showered him and Prince William with attention during their mother’s lifetime. A triggered memory during the helicopter incident brought back the generosity of Al Fayed, gifting them laser pens from Harrods.
Expressing gratitude, Harry remarked, “He was the father of Mummy’s boyfriend, so maybe he was trying to win us over. If so, job done. We thought those lasers were genius. We whipped them around like lightsabers.”
In a more recent context, Prince Harry drew parallels between the struggles faced by his wife, Meghan Markle, including suicidal thoughts, and the challenges Princess Diana encountered. In a Netflix docuseries, he revealed the profound impact on his mental health, expressing regret for not addressing racism earlier in his relationship with Meghan.
Reflecting on the parallels, he stated, “History was repeating itself. My mother was chased to her death while she was in a relationship with someone that wasn’t white and now look what’s happened.”
Prince Harry’s memoir and subsequent reflections offer readers a poignant glimpse into his complex emotions surrounding Princess Diana and shed light on the enduring challenges faced by his family.
