Xochitl Gomez and dance partner Val Chmerkovskiy ended season 32 of Dancing with the Stars on top of the world. On Tuesday night (December 5), the duo placed first on the season finale and took home the coveted Mirrorball.
Throughout the entire season, Xochitl Gomez kept proving to herself and to the millions watching at home that she belonged in the finale and did it again with her two flawless dances during the finale.
The first dance was a foxtrot to Katy Perry’s “Unconditionally.” Dressed in a black and white polka-dotted dress, Gomez floated across the floor with beauty and grace. The dance scored her and Chmerkovskiy a perfect 10.
The second dance was a freestyle performance to District 78’s “Que Calor” that started with Chmerkovskiy playing the violin and Gomez being lifted onto the floor by two other performers. The dance was full of energy and the red and black atmosphere was perfect for the tango elements the couple showed off at the start. The dance gave the pair their second perfect score of the night.
“What sets you apart is the way you dance as one,” said judge Carrie Ann Inaba. Judge Derek Hough called Gomez “the most charismatic dancer on this show.”
Gomez and Chmerkovskiy Jason Mraz and Daniella Karagach were called onto the floor as the top two dance partners. When Gomez and Chmerkovskiy were announced champions, Gomez wrapped her arms around him and started to cry. “Oh, my God!” she said. “Why is there so much confetti on my back?!”
They held their trophy up high as the live audience celebrated their win.
