Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said, “Freedom will win” during a rousing speech to U.K. lawmakers at London’s Houses of Parliament
Zelenskyy made a surprise visit to the UK after the Russian invasion of Ukraine nearly a year ago, Zelensky gave a speech to the joint houses of the British parliament and made a direct plea for more heavy weaponry, including fighter jets.
Ukraine President also said: “We will always come out on top of evil, We know freedom will win, We know Russia will lose.”
He also thanked “all the people of England and Scotland, of Wales and Northern Ireland” for their support, on behalf of “our fighters who are now in the trenches under enemy artillery fire”.
Earlier this year, the UK also announced it would send 14 battle tanks to Ukraine. President Zelensky praised UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for taking this “powerful defensive stop”.
He also thanked King Charles, whom he met at Buckingham Palace earlier, as well as the MPs who gave Ukraine their support at Westminster Hall.
However, Zelenskyy wearing his trademark olive drab sweatshirt, urged allies to send his country jets, saying combat aircraft would be “wings for freedom.”
