At the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, Emma Stone emerged as the triumphant recipient of the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical accolade for her stellar performance in “Poor Things.” Facing stiff competition from a lineup of accomplished nominees, Stone’s outstanding portrayal secured her the coveted award.

The category featured formidable contenders, including Fantasia Barrino for “The Color Purple,” Jennifer Lawrence for “No Hard Feelings,” Natalie Portman for “May December,” Alma Pöysti for “Fallen Leaves,” Margot Robbie for “Barbie,” and Emma Stone for “Poor Things.” Stone’s remarkable acting in the film ultimately earned her the prestigious recognition.

In a heartfelt acceptance speech, Stone began by expressing her love and gratitude to her husband, Dave McCary, whom she married in 2020. She thanked him for his unwavering support and love, setting a heartwarming tone for her acceptance.

Acknowledging her “Poor Things” castmates, which included Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo, and Ramy Youssef, Stone described her experience on set as an “absolute joy.” She extended her appreciation to Tony McNamara, the film’s writer, and director Yorgos Lanthimos, highlighting the profound impact of playing the character Bella.

Stone injected humor into her speech, playfully describing “Poor Things” as a romantic comedy with a unique twist. In this interpretation, Bella falls in love with life itself rather than a specific person. Stone emphasized how the character’s acceptance of life’s highs and lows left a lasting impression on her, prompting her to view life differently.

This win marked Emma Stone’s seventh and eighth acting nods at the Golden Globes, solidifying her status as an accomplished and celebrated actress. Her previous victory at the Golden Globes came in 2018 for her role in “La La Land,” a performance that also earned her an Oscar.

The 81st Golden Globe Awards celebrated exceptional achievements in film and television, shining a spotlight on outstanding talent across diverse categories. “Poor Things” and other noteworthy films received well-deserved acclaim, showcasing the richness and excellence within the entertainment industry.
