Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s friendship has flourished during the filming and promotion of their upcoming movie Wicked. In a recent interview with Tony Fly and Symon on SiriusXM Hits 1 LA, the two co-stars revealed how they have made the memories of the highly anticipated film last forever—through matching tattoos.
During the conversation, Ariana shared that while filming Wicked, she and Cynthia decided to get tattoos to mark the occasion. While some of the tattoos are visible to the public, others remain a secret between the two. The Thank U, Next singer explained that the tattoos are a special way to honor their experience working together on the film.
Cynthia, who portrays Elphaba in the movie, revealed that one of their tattoos is inspired by their powerful duet For Good. The two women have the words “For Good” tattooed on their palms, symbolizing the deep connection and significance of the song in their lives. In addition, Cynthia showed off a tattoo of her character’s memorable line from the musical, “Maybe some of us are just different.”
Ariana, who plays Glinda in Wicked, chimed in, saying she also has a tattoo inspired by her character. “I have Glinda from the 1901 original L. Frank Baum book,” Ariana shared, emphasizing how meaningful the role is to her.
The pair reflected on their producer Jon M. Chu’s reaction when he learned about their matching tattoos. Ariana recalled, “He was like, ‘We’re not even done yet,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah. Should we not be doing this?’” Their close bond and deep commitment to the project were clearly evident, as they’ve gone above and beyond to commemorate the film in such a personal way.
With Wicked set to hit theaters on November 22, 2024, the tattoos serve as a lasting reminder of the unique and powerful experience Ariana and Cynthia have shared while working on the film. Fans can expect to see more of their intense connection and passion for Wicked as the film prepares for its release.
