Pete Davidson Shares How He Spent His First SNL Paycheck

Pete Davidson recently offered a humorous look back at his early days on Saturday Night Live (SNL), sharing the reality of his first paycheck from the show. In a video released by New York Magazine on December 4, the 31-year-old comedian reflected on his initial earnings while chatting with other SNL alumni.

When asked about his “biggest indulgence” after receiving his first payment, Davidson quipped, “Do you guys know what they pay us? It’s like three grand an episode, so I think I got dinner!”

Davidson wasn’t alone in reminiscing about the modest start that comes with working on the iconic sketch show. Jason Sudeikis, who spent nine years as a cast member and two years as a writer, shared a similar sentiment. “I mean, you don’t really make enough money to make big purchases,” he admitted. “So, I think New York rent was probably the biggest purchase I made after writing on SNL the first year.”

Another alum, Cheri Oteri, shared a memorable anecdote about her first splurge. “I bought a couch with my first paycheck,” she revealed, adding that she’s had the piece reupholstered multiple times. Oteri hilariously recalled a designer suggesting it be replaced, but she stood her ground, saying, “Not today, Satan!”

The candid moments from the SNL stars highlight the financial realities many face in their early careers, even on a platform as renowned as Saturday Night Live. Despite their modest beginnings, these alums have gone on to enjoy successful and lucrative careers in comedy and entertainment.
