Kate Middleton has shared a hopeful update on her health journey, revealing that she is now in “remission” from cancer and focusing on her recovery.
In a heartfelt post on January 14, 2025, the Princess of Wales, 43, took to social media to express her gratitude to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she received her treatment. Her statement came on the same day as a surprise visit to the hospital, marking her first public engagement since she took time away from her royal duties due to her health battle. The visit also coincided with the announcement that she will join Prince William as a joint patron of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, an organization she has supported for years.
“I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year,” Kate shared in her message. “My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”
Kate also expressed her commitment to supporting cancer research and improving the experiences of patients and families affected by the disease. “As a joint patron of Royal Marsden, I hope to contribute to groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promote patient and family wellbeing,” she wrote. “We might save many more lives and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.”
In her update, Kate shared her relief at being in remission, adding that she remains focused on her recovery. “It is a relief to now be in remission, and I remain focused on recovery,” she said. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. However, I am looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead, and there is much to look forward to.”
Kate had announced her diagnosis in March 2024 and subsequently took time out of the spotlight to prioritize her health. She completed chemotherapy treatment in September 2024. During her visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital, Kate also emphasized the importance of self-care, particularly in managing her well-being after treatment. “I really felt like I needed to get the sun,” she said. “You need loads of water and loads of sunlight.”
Since completing her treatment, the Princess of Wales has gradually returned to her royal duties, participating in public outings with her family, including Remembrance Day events and Christmas services. On her birthday, January 9, Prince William shared an emotional tribute to Kate on social media, praising her strength and resilience throughout the challenging year.
Kate’s return to her royal duties is being carefully managed, with a family friend confirming that the princess is prioritizing her health. “She is looking after herself and is wise to do so. She will know when she wakes up if she is well enough or not [to do something],” the friend said.
As she continues her recovery, Kate’s heartfelt message of gratitude and optimism has resonated with many, reinforcing her commitment to supporting those impacted by cancer while focusing on her own healing.
