Gerard Butler, the star of the newly released Den of Thieves 2, recently shared insights into the challenging and action-packed stunts featured in the film. Reprising his role as Nicholas O’Brien, aka Big Nick, the 55-year-old actor gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at the difficult conditions he faced while performing some of the high-octane sequences.
The 2025 action crime film, directed by Christian Gudegast, is a sequel to the 2018 blockbuster Den of Thieves, where Butler starred alongside 50 Cent. In the latest installment, Butler’s character returns to take on a new, high-stakes heist that pushes him to his limits.
Butler explained that while filming the movie was thrilling, the stunts came with their fair share of challenges. “It was fun shooting the action sequences, but they were all done under tough conditions,” he said. “We were overheating, climbing, jumping, and constantly on the move. It was intense.”
One of the most difficult aspects of the action scenes were the costumes, which the actor described as extremely hot and hard to breathe in. Despite the discomfort, Butler noted that the physical demands added to the authenticity of the film. “When you’re in a heist, you can really feel like you’re in it,” he said. “It makes the experience that much more exciting.”
The actor also revealed that at times, the adrenaline from one scene would carry over into the next, making the action feel even more dangerous. “Sometimes, as we started a scene, my heart was still racing from finishing the previous one. I’m like, ‘This is getting bloody dangerous,'” he admitted.
However, Butler embraced the thrill of the intense stunts. “It was incredible, but it didn’t feel overwhelming. It felt like it was on the edge of control, which is exactly what you want. If it works and makes it into the movie, that’s the magic,” he said.
Den of Thieves 2 promises to be another high-energy heist film, packed with action and suspense, as Butler and his co-stars return for an explosive new adventure. Fans of the first film will no doubt be on the edge of their seats as the sequel delivers even more daring stunts and heart-pounding moments.
