Aimee Lou Wood is setting the record straight after a series of emotional photos surfaced online, sparking speculation among fans and media.
Earlier this week, the Sex Education and The White Lotus star was photographed in South London appearing visibly upset while leaning on her close friend and collaborator, Ralph Davis. The timing of the images — coming shortly after her public reaction to a controversial Saturday Night Live sketch — led many to believe the two incidents were connected.
However, Wood has taken to Instagram to clarify that the viral moment had nothing to do with the comedy show.
“I actually wasn’t crying about anything that the papers made out,” the 31-year-old wrote. “I was crying about… something completely unrelated.”
The misunderstanding comes on the heels of backlash over an SNL skit titled The White Potus, in which comedian Sarah Sherman portrayed Wood’s character with exaggerated false teeth. The parody drew criticism for mocking the actress’s appearance, with Wood herself labeling the sketch “mean and unfunny.”
“I have big gap teeth, not bad teeth,” she pointed out, defending her look while acknowledging that satire is a part of the show’s nature. “I don’t mind caricature — I understand that’s what SNL is — but the rest of the skit was punching up, and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.”
Though she didn’t shy away from calling out the joke, Wood made it clear her emotional state in the photos wasn’t related. Her message served as a reminder not to jump to conclusions based on paparazzi shots that lack context.
