Meghan Markle is shedding light on one of the most painful experiences of her life.
In the second episode of her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, the Duchess of Sussex spoke candidly about the miscarriage she endured in 2020, offering insight into the emotional detachment she had to navigate afterward. The episode features a conversation with Reshma Saujani, the founder of Girls Who Code, as they explore the personal challenges they’ve faced as women and mothers.

Meghan, 43, carefully approached the sensitive topic, checking with Saujani to see if she was “comfortable talking about it” before opening up about her experience. She explained how, in a sense, a miscarriage requires a person to detach emotionally from something that once held so much hope and promise.
“I’ve spoken about the miscarriage that we experienced,” Meghan said, reflecting on the difficult experience. “And I think in some parallel way, you have to learn to detach from the thing that you have so much promise and hope for.”
She continued, expressing the heartbreaking reality of having to let go of something she had planned to love for a long time: “And to be able to be okay at a certain point to let something go, something that you planned to love for a long time.”

The Duchess had previously shared her miscarriage in a powerful 2020 New York Times op-ed and revisited the topic in the Harry & Meghan docuseries on Netflix. Through her openness, Meghan has created a space for others who may have faced similar losses to find solidarity and support.
Saujani, who has also experienced miscarriages due to autoimmune issues, responded with empathy: “I feel like you’re reading my diary. That’s really insightful,” acknowledging how Meghan’s words resonated deeply with her own struggles.
This episode also followed Meghan’s earlier health disclosure about her experience with postpartum preeclampsia, a rare and frightening condition she faced after the birth of her children. Meghan described the condition as “so rare and so scary,” highlighting the personal challenges she encountered while still trying to “show up for people” during that difficult time.
Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, are parents to son Archie, born in 2019, and daughter Lilibet, born in 2021. Through her podcast and various public disclosures, Meghan continues to foster conversations about motherhood, mental health, and personal growth.
