As the British Royal Family prepares for King Charles III’s official birthday celebration, Meghan Markle is set to make headlines across the Atlantic with a prestigious honor in Los Angeles.
The Duchess of Sussex will be recognized at the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County’s Night of Wonder gala on June 14, the same evening as the UK’s Trooping the Colour event. The annual ceremony in London marks King Charles’ ceremonial birthday and typically features a grand military parade and a Buckingham Palace balcony appearance by senior royals.
While Prince William, Princess Kate, and their children are expected to attend the royal festivities in the UK, Meghan will be celebrated for her advocacy and community work in California. The event will honor her ongoing efforts to empower women and support underserved communities.
Lori Bettison-Varga, president of the museum, praised the Duchess’s contributions, stating, “We are proud to honor Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, a native Angeleno, whose work to advance community wellbeing and expand opportunity aligns with our equity-focused approach.”
The gala, held at Exposition Park, will attract a star-studded guest list from Los Angeles’ cultural, philanthropic, and entertainment circles. Meghan is also scheduled to deliver a speech during the evening.
Back in London, Trooping the Colour is expected to be attended by key members of the Royal Family, including Princess Anne, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. However, it remains uncertain whether Prince Harry will make an appearance at either event.
This dual spotlight—royalty in London and recognition in Los Angeles—once again highlights the divide between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal institution.
