The upcoming romantic comedy Materialists, featuring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal, is generating significant buzz ahead of its release. Written and directed by Oscar-winning screenwriter Celine Song, the film tells the story of Lucy, a young New York City matchmaker who finds herself caught in a complicated love triangle while trying to find love for herself.

The movie’s official synopsis reads, “A young, ambitious New York City matchmaker finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex,” setting the stage for an emotional and engaging journey.

Critics have already started sharing their impressions, with Materialists receiving strong endorsements. The Wrap praised the film, stating, “I do heartily recommend you see Materialists, and that you see it for what it is, not what it kinda looks like from the outside, as pitched to you by the very sort of romance-commodification salespersons that Celine Song’s movie criticizes.”

BBC Culture also highlighted the film’s strengths, calling it “exquisitely made, character-driven and talky, with some glittering dialogue.” They added that Materialists showcases the kind of unique, character-focused film that a director gets to make after a major success, commending Song for making the most of this opportunity.

The movie has earned an impressive 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes, signaling widespread approval from critics.

With such positive early feedback, Materialists is poised to perform well at the box office, captivating audiences with its heartfelt storytelling and strong performances from its star-studded cast. Fans of romantic comedies and character-driven dramas alike will want to keep an eye out for this promising new release.
