John Cena, the iconic WWE superstar who transitioned into Hollywood stardom, has officially announced that 2025 will mark his final year in professional wrestling. The 48-year-old athlete-turned-actor shared the emotional news during an interview with Extra, while also promoting his upcoming action-packed film Heads of State.
Cena, who made his WWE debut in 2001, quickly rose to fame as one of the most recognizable faces in sports entertainment. Over the years, he became a 16-time world champion and a fan favorite for his signature moves, “Never Give Up” mantra, and larger-than-life personality. Now, after more than two decades of electrifying performances in the ring, Cena has confirmed that the curtain is closing on his wrestling career.
“This is my final year in the WWE. I’m retiring this year. We’re about halfway through, so I look forward to officially closing the book on in-ring competition,” Cena said during the interview.
However, his connection with WWE won’t end completely. Cena assured fans that he will continue to serve as an ambassador for the company even after stepping away from active competition.
“I will forever be an ambassador of the WWE. I’ll be part of that family till they ask me to leave,” he added.
