Hong Kong and global film legend Jackie Chan received a warm and enthusiastic welcome at the 78th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, where he was awarded the prestigious Pardo alla Carriera (Career Leopard) prize.

The ceremony took place at Locarno’s iconic Piazza Grande square, where the 71-year-old actor greeted the crowd in Italian with a heartfelt “Buona sera” and a friendly wave. Upon receiving the award, Chan humorously remarked on its weight, calling it “very, very heavy,” before expressing his sincere gratitude to the festival and the audience.

“I am just so happy and so honored to be here,” Chan said. He thanked directors and stars worldwide who have “made me look good” and gave special recognition to his fans: “Because of you, I am standing here.”

The Karate Kid star reflected on his long career spanning 64 years in the entertainment industry, proudly stating, “I am 71. I still can fight,” referencing a question his father once asked about his fighting abilities after turning 60.

Before concluding his speech, Chan sent a message of global unity and love, saying, “Love and peace. Love you all! Ti amo!” and playfully added kissing sounds, which delighted the crowd.

Fans had shown their excitement well before Chan’s appearance, sporting Jackie Chan T-shirts and holding signs reading “I Love Jackie Chan.” The audience erupted in applause when images of the star appeared on the big screen.

On the red carpet, Chan engaged warmly with fans by waving, smiling, and striking a martial arts pose, creating memorable moments.

As part of the tribute, Chan introduced screenings of his classic films Project A (1983) and Police Story (1985), highlighting his impressive work both as a performer and director.

Locarno artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro praised Chan’s unparalleled influence on cinema, calling him “a key figure in contemporary Asian cinema whose impact has rewritten the rules of Hollywood,” and recognizing his multiple talents as a director, producer, actor, screenwriter, choreographer, singer, athlete, and stuntman.
