Fans are still reeling after new details emerged about Liam Payne’s unreleased sophomore album — a deeply emotional project that never made it to shelves before his untimely passing.
According to The Sun, two track titles from the former One Direction star’s unfinished record — Safe in Heaven and Rainbow — recently leaked online, giving fans a glimpse into what could have been one of his most personal works yet.
The leak comes just days after the first anniversary of Payne’s passing on October 16, sparking renewed discussion about the artist’s final creative phase and the emotional tone of his unreleased music.

In Safe in Heaven, Payne reportedly sings about “searching for a way back to myself,” while Rainbow reflects on hope and chaos with lines like:
“I got all these rainbows over my head, but somehow I see the sun creeping out the mess.”
The song also includes the verse:
“At times I tend to blur lines, seemed like a good idea when I did it at the time. I blacked out but coming back around.”
An industry insider revealed that Payne’s label had put the record on hold weeks before his passing, despite the release of its lead single Teardrops, which ultimately became his final song.
“Liam was really proud of his second album,” the insider shared. “But the label was concerned he wasn’t in the right headspace to release it. Ultimately, this led to them going their separate ways.”
The source described the album as “emotional, raw, and autobiographical,” adding that it reflected Liam’s most vulnerable songwriting to date.
“It’s lyrically on par with some of Lewis Capaldi’s work but sonically upbeat. Liam wanted that record to be released — he wanted to share it with his fans who had always supported him.”
As of now, it remains uncertain whether the album will ever see the light of day. Those close to the late singer suggest that the decision rests with Payne’s family, who continue to process their loss.
Still, the emotional lyrics of Safe in Heaven and Rainbow have already struck a chord with fans, offering one final glimpse into the soul of an artist gone too soon.
