Royal biographer Tom Bower has claimed that Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, once believed she would be the next Queen, rather than Kate Middleton, wife of Prince William and the heir apparent.
Speaking on the Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered podcast ahead of his new book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, Bower revealed insider details about Meghan’s ambitions within the royal household.

“This establishment figure reported to the Queen that Meghan thinks that once she marries into the royal family, she’s going to be God. Which is pretty hilarious, but clearly, she believed it,” Bower said.
Bower further explained that Meghan reportedly felt she was better suited for the throne.
“Clearly [Meghan] thought… I’ve come to the conclusion, with the help of others on the inside, that she really thought she, rather than Kate [Middleton], should be the next queen after Charles,” he added.
The biographer also claimed that Meghan struggled to accept her position in the line of succession.
“She couldn’t understand why she was better looking, and in her view, more intelligent, harder working, and everything, should be the queen. And she hated the idea that she and Harry were relegated so far down the order,” Bower said.
According to Bower, these frustrations and ambitions contributed to Meghan and Prince Harry’s eventual decision to step back from royal duties.
“She got everything she wanted and then knew what she wanted and couldn’t get, and that was a lot. That’s why, of course, she never intended to stay,” Bower concluded.
The revelations add to ongoing debates about Meghan Markle’s role and ambitions within the royal family, fueling speculation about her motivations and the couple’s exit from royal life.
