Richard Gadd has opened up about his hit Netflix series Baby Reindeer, emphasizing that he has no regrets despite the ongoing legal battle surrounding the show.
Premiering in April 2024, Baby Reindeer quickly became a major success for Netflix. The series, based on Gadd’s own experiences, follows a struggling comedian who becomes the target of a stalker.
However, the show has faced a high-profile lawsuit. Fiona Muir-Harvey, reportedly the real-life inspiration for the character Martha, filed a defamation and negligence case against Netflix, seeking $170 million in damages.

Gadd Responds to the Controversy
Speaking with The Times, Gadd described the situation as “tricky” but highlighted the positive impact of the series.
“It had a phenomenal impact. Referrals to abuse charities went up 53 per cent, 47 per cent for stalking charities. I’m proud people saw it, related and realised they need help. That led to positive change. So there’s a lot I’m super-proud of,” Gadd said.
The controversy stemmed from viewers attempting to identify real-life individuals behind the story, prompting criticism about how closely characters mirrored actual people.
Looking Ahead
Despite the lawsuit, Gadd remains committed to creating authentic stories.
“If you ever write from a place of fear, it won’t go very well. My first thought is whether I can do the subject justice – before wondering what someone might think,” he shared.
Gadd’s statements reinforce his dedication to tackling difficult subjects while prioritizing authenticity over public perception.
