Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in 2022, had a heartfelt final wish: to spend time with all her 12 great-grandchildren before her death.
Royal author Robert Hardman shared:
“The Queen wanted all the great-grandchildren to come up to Balmoral at some point over that summer, even if the Sussexes might not be able to make it. She wanted to make sure that they all had a really happy memory of her.”

Royal expert Grant Harold added that the Queen made it a tradition for her family to enjoy the summer together at Balmoral:
“She’d make sure that every summer they were there, and it was part of the annual break. There were lots of different activities and things going on.”
These summers included Highland Games, Ghillies balls, and numerous family visits, offering fun-filled experiences for the children. Harold noted that this tradition continued for two months, extending slightly longer for King Charles.
Queen Elizabeth II’s wish highlights her dedication to family, ensuring that her great-grandchildren enjoyed joyful summers and lasting memories at Balmoral, a place that held special significance for the royal family.
