NEW YORK, April 30 — King Charles III has revealed what stood out most to him during a recent White House state dinner, pointing not to the menu or guest list, but to the evening’s musical performances.

Speaking during a business and trade engagement at Rockefeller Center on Wednesday, the British monarch said he was “so impressed” by the music performed by U.S. military bands at the formal dinner held a day earlier in Washington, D.C.

The event, hosted by Donald Trump and attended by Melania Trump, featured performances from musicians representing branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, including the Army, Marines and Air Force.

A Personal Appreciation for Music

The King’s remarks came during a conversation with Stephen Schwarzman, chairman and CEO of Blackstone, who was also among the attendees at the state dinner.

Known for his longstanding appreciation of music — particularly classical — the monarch has often taken a hands-on role in curating musical selections for major royal events.

His interest was previously highlighted during the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018, where he contributed to choosing elements of the ceremony’s musical program.

Part of a Broader U.S. Visit

King Charles and Queen Camilla are currently in the United States as part of a four-day state visit marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The trip began in Washington, D.C., where the King delivered a historic address to a joint session of Congress — becoming only the second British monarch to do so after Queen Elizabeth II.

Following their engagements in the capital, the royal couple traveled to New York City, where they undertook a series of public appearances, including a visit to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.

Continued Engagements

During their time in New York, the King also visited community initiatives and participated in discussions aimed at strengthening economic ties between the United Kingdom and the United States.

Queen Camilla attended a literary event at the New York Public Library, reflecting her ongoing advocacy for literacy and education.

The couple later reunited for a cultural reception highlighting shared artistic and social initiatives between the two nations.

Looking Ahead

The royal visit is set to conclude in Virginia, where King Charles and Queen Camilla will attend events commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.

Following the U.S. trip, the King is expected to travel onward to Bermuda for his first official visit there as monarch.

The King’s comments offered a rare personal glimpse into the state dinner, underscoring how cultural elements — particularly music — can leave a lasting impression even during high-level diplomatic occasions.
