DUBAI — The United Arab Emirates said it came under missile and drone attacks on Tuesday, as tensions in the Gulf region intensified despite U.S. claims that a fragile ceasefire with Iran remains in place.
The developments come amid heightened military activity near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route where commercial vessels have faced repeated security risks.
UAE says air defences engaged incoming strikes
The UAE defence ministry said its air defence systems intercepted and responded to incoming missile and drone activity, without providing immediate details on damage or casualties.
The alleged attacks follow a broader escalation involving Iran and regional security forces operating in the Gulf.
U.S. says ceasefire still holding despite clashes
U.S. officials maintain that a fragile ceasefire agreement remains in effect, even after reported exchanges of fire involving American forces in the region.
The U.S. military said it had destroyed several Iranian small boats, along with missiles and drones, as part of ongoing operations aimed at securing maritime routes.
Washington has described its naval deployment as a temporary mission focused on protecting commercial shipping in the region.
Operation to secure shipping lanes
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the operation is not intended to escalate into a broader conflict, emphasizing that the situation is being closely monitored.

“We’re not looking for a fight,” he said, adding that the ceasefire “certainly holds” despite recent incidents.
Iran warns vessels in disputed waters
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have reportedly issued warnings to commercial vessels to remain within designated corridors in the Strait of Hormuz, warning of what they described as a “decisive response” to violations.
The warnings come alongside new maritime boundary claims released by Iran, further increasing tensions in the strategically important shipping lane.
Trump comments on Iran stance
Former U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the situation, suggesting Iran’s military capabilities had weakened while also claiming Tehran may still be open to negotiations.
Situation remains volatile
Despite diplomatic messaging from Washington suggesting restraint, the overlapping reports of strikes, naval activity, and warnings from Tehran highlight the fragile and unpredictable nature of the current security environment in the Gulf.
