Putin aims to boost ties with Africa despite the conflict in Ukraine

This week Russia hosts African leaders for a summit to strengthen ties despite African concerns over conflict in the Ukraine and the deal’s suspension on Ukraine’s grain exports.

Isolated on the global stage since launching the military campaign in Kyiv, Russian President Putin still has full support in African nations.

Putin wrote on the Kremlin website, Today the partnership is productive, confident and it successfully turned towards the future.

Several African leaders are expected at Saint Petersburg’s summit including the President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa.

The deal that permitted Ukrainian grain exports through the Black Sea to international markets, is put to conquer the agenda.

Earlier this month Moscow drew out of the deal, saying a commitment to allow Russian exports had not been honored. Over a year, the deal permitted about 33 million tonnes of grain to depart Ukrainian ports, assisting in stabilizing global food prices and preventing shortages.

A few days ago, Russia aimed to reassure African partners, saying it understands their situation on the issue.

Kremlin has said that without any doubt it is ready to export grain for free to African nations.
