North Korea invites foreign golfers to golf tournaments in Pyongyang

North Korea invited foreigners to participate in a tournament in Pyongyang, which is another uncertain step in the unsociable country’s reopening after Beijing and Moscow’s officials participated in a military parade last month.

Pyongyang has been under a Covid-19 barrier since early 2020 but there are several indications that Pyongyang may be becoming more flexible on border controls, experts say.

The Pyongyang Gold Course hosts a golfers competition in spring and autumn every year. Foreigners can also participate in golf contests that will be scheduled to be held in spring and autumn in our nation and create friendships with Korean golfers, it read on a post from 2nd of August on Pyongyang’s official DPR Korea Tour website.

The following post also included a phone number and an email address for its “Golf travel company” but the post didn’t add when the golf tournament would take place.

While in another post, Pyongyang said that its agency, the Ryomyonh Golf Travel Company, had created inducements including “an underwater golf course, archery ground, and boating ground”.
