Tyrese Gibson Files $1 Million Lawsuit Against The Home Depot, Alleging Racial Profiling

Tyrese Gibson, along with his associates Manuel Hernandez and Eric Mora, has taken legal action against The Home Depot, launching a lawsuit seeking $1 million in damages. The trio alleges a distressing incident of racial profiling that unfolded at a store in the Los Angeles region, igniting a high-stakes legal battle.

Occurring on the evening of February 11, the incident has led Gibson and his companions to claim they were subjected to “outrageous discriminatory mistreatment and consumer racial profiling.” Gibson, who has frequented various Home Depot locations over the years, approximates that his patronage has amounted to over $1 million.

The alleged incident revolved around a delay experienced by the group at a Home Depot checkout counter, attributed to a supposed system glitch. This hold-up lasted approximately 20 minutes, drawing attention to the scene due to Gibson’s celebrity status as a star from the iconic “Fast and Furious” film series.

During the delay, Mora and Hernandez opted to exit the store and wait in their car. Gibson reportedly informed the cashier of this decision, receiving acknowledgment from the cashier. However, when Gibson’s friends attempted to finalize the purchase using his credit card, they purportedly encountered resistance.

As detailed in the lawsuit, the cashier refused to complete the transaction, citing “store policy,” and insisted on verifying identification. After a tense exchange, Gibson eventually managed to complete the purchase.

The crux of the lawsuit contends that the actions taken by the cashier and manager were racially motivated, with no logical explanation for the mistreatment apart from the plaintiffs’ race and national origin. The suit further asserts that this treatment was not only demeaning but also deeply humiliating.

In response to these allegations, a spokesperson for The Home Depot emphasized the company’s commitment to diversity and respect for all customers. The spokesperson noted that they value Tyrese Gibson as a patron and have made attempts to address the concerns raised.

However, the lawsuit argues that The Home Depot has failed to acknowledge responsibility for the alleged discrimination and has instead opted to stand firm, exacerbating the plaintiffs’ pain and distress caused by the incident.

This legal battle casts a spotlight on the crucial issue of racial profiling and discrimination within retail settings. As the case progresses, it underscores the importance of addressing such allegations and striving for equitable treatment for all patrons, regardless of their background.
