The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee is required more time to announce India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, set to kickstart on August 30, while India will start its tournament campaign on September 2 against Arch-rival, Pakistan.
Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal have already announced their squad for the upcoming tournament, while India, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka are yet to announce their squad for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament.
For India, the reported reason for delaying squad announcement is that the selection committee wants to give injured KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer some time, so they can prove their fitness and finalize their spot in the team.
BCCI might announce their playing squad for Asia Cup 2023 by the middle or end of this week, as per a report in the news agency PTI.
Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul underwent surgeries of the lower back and thigh respectively earlier this year after sustaining injuries while playing and have been under rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, hoping to gain fitness for upcoming tournaments.
Rishabh Pant shared a video in which both Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul were playing at NCA.
