Google: Sundar Pichai fired 12,000 workforce

Sundar Pichai fired 12,000 staff members, which is almost 6 percent of its workforce. Terminations came as part of cuts in response to what it called a new “economic reality”. The huge number of termination of employees in Google follows similar acts at Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft, which together have released 10,000 of their tech workers.

Sundar Pichai, who is the chief executive of parent firm Alphabet, said in a staff announcement sharing the “difficult news” that the company will make cuts to products and functions that are “associated with our highest priorities as a company”.

Pichai suggested, “Many of those preferences focus on AI”. While pointing to AI, he said, they had contributed to making “Google’s products better than ever” and that it was planning to “share some new experiences for users, developers, and businesses, too”.

The cuts and termination come when their rival Microsoft announce, they would fire 10,000 workers. The reduction of jobs in Alphabet badly affects teams all over the company. Termination in the company affects recruiting, and some corporate functions as some production and engineering teams. Sundar Pichai admitted that expanding the workforce for Google’s development, didn’t materialize.

To match and fuel that growth, we hired for a different economic reality than the one we face today. It will be mean to say goodbye to some of the incredibly hardworking and talented people. These changes will impact the lives of Googlers. I take the full burden for the decisions that led us here. I am deeply sorry for that.”

Google said they would look to support their employees as they left the company. We will support them and provide them with a severance package as well as healthcare, job, and immigration support.
