The United Nations rights chief warned that recent changes in AI could pose the biggest threat to human rights and called for safeguards to prevent violations.
Last week along with China and the United States, 60 countries attend a conference in the Netherlands, calling for regulating AI in defense military to ensure it “does not undermine international security, stability and accountability”.
There have been increasing concerns threat over things such as AI-guided drones, ‘slaughter bots’ that can kill with no human guidance, and the risk that artificial intelligence could increase military conflict.
I am deeply disturbed by the potential for harm of recent advances in artificial intelligence. Human agency, human dignity, and all human rights are at serious risk. This is an urgent call for both business and governments to develop quickly effective guardrails that are so urgently needed.”
Volker Turk-UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
AI almost entered our daily life routine, changing our way of life, changing our health routine like monitor, revolutionizing internet searches, and bringing the app or software that can generate any answer, story, a video even a movie in a matter of time
If many people utilize it then many people criticize it for many issues such as breaches of privacy and biased algorithms.
We will follow this closely, provide our specific expertise and ensure that the human rights dimension remains central to how this goes forward.”
