As the launch of the highly anticipated iPhone 15 series draws closer, fresh leaks have shed light on significant design modifications, including the incorporation of USB-C ports, bezel adjustments, and the possibility of a surprise upgrade for older iPhone generations.
Confirmed reports now indicate that the iPhone 15 series will introduce USB-C charging ports, a detail that was previously hinted at by numerous rumors and renders. This development holds great significance for iPhone users, not only due to its alignment with upcoming international regulations but also because it will allow owners to utilize a single cable for charging iPads, iPhones, and MacBooks. Additionally, iPhone and Android users will finally be able to share charging cables, a convenience that was previously unavailable.
The move to USB-C also brings with it the promise of faster data and charging speeds for iPhones, addressing a previous performance lag behind Android counterparts. Initial leaks have even suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro models could potentially feature Thunderbolt 4 performance, boasting speeds of up to 40,000 megabits per second.
Further design enhancements come in the form of super-thin bezels, with upcoming screen protectors for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max revealing their sleek profile of just 1.5mm thickness. This sets a new record, surpassing the Xiaomi 13’s previous mark of 1.81mm. Notably, these bezels are about 20% and 30% slimmer than those of the Galaxy S23 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro, respectively.
Hints of the iPhone 15 series’ existence were also detected in Apple’s tvOS 17 beta code, underscoring the company’s preparations for its upcoming lineup. Leaks have suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models will feature a titanium chassis, a revamped solid-state Action button, and an upgraded Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology. On the other hand, standard iPhone 15 models are expected to adopt the Dynamic Island design, while the entire range is set to integrate advanced stacked battery technology for improved efficiency.
Despite these enhancements, expectations of a notable price increase for this year’s iPhone lineup are also on the horizon.
Even beyond the high-end models, Apple’s design updates extend to the iPhone SE4, slated for 2024. Leaks have hinted at the inclusion of USB-C, Face ID, and an updated Action button for the upcoming iteration of the iPhone SE series.
