According to recent statistics, TikTok has surpassed Instagram in several key areas helped it become the leading short-video platform. Here are some of the key statistics:

  • Active users: As of 2021, TikTok has over 1 billion monthly active users, while Instagram has around 1 billion monthly active users as well.
  • User engagement: TikTok’s average daily user engagement is much higher than that of Instagram. On TikTok, users spend an average of 52 minutes per day, compared to just 28 minutes on Instagram.
  • Video content: TikTok’s focus on short-form video content has proven to be more popular than the more traditional photo-based content on Instagram. TikTok users watch an average of 60 videos per day, while Instagram users watch around 60 videos per week.
  • Growth rate: TikTok’s growth rate is much faster than that of Instagram. In 2020, TikTok’s global downloads increased by 58%, while Instagram’s downloads grew by just 8%.

These statistics demonstrate that TikTok’s unique approach to short-form video content and its innovative features have helped it attract and retain a large, highly engaged user base. This, in turn, has helped TikTok beat Instagram in terms of active users, user engagement, and growth rate.
