Shortly after the release of the iPhone 15 on September 22, a significant number of buyers have raised concerns about overheating problems and frame-related issues with the new model. This has prompted warnings to potential buyers considering the phone this week.
Users of the sleek new smartphones claim that the device becomes unbearably hot after just a few minutes of use, a stark contrast to previous models with stainless steel frames. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models feature frames made of titanium, which may be contributing to some of the complaints.
The discussion around the device’s heat issues was sparked by tech content creator Mohit Verma, who posted his concerns on social media. In his post, Verma mentioned, “The natural titanium iPhone 15 Pro gets extremely hot, so much so that it becomes difficult to hold. Furthermore, it heats up after just a 2-minute FaceTime call or when scrolling through reels for 8-10 minutes. This is a new issue for me, as I’ve never encountered this with any previous phone.”
A video shared by Verma, which has garnered over a million views, showed him using a thermometer to measure the iPhone 15 Pro’s temperature, reaching a scorching 42 degrees Celsius (107.6 degrees Fahrenheit).
Users also reported issues such as battery drain being worse than usual during usage, further adding to concerns about the device’s performance.
However, some iPhone 15 owners defended the phone, asserting that it did not generate excessive heat and suggesting that those experiencing issues might have defective units. Apple recommends that users with concerns visit an Apple Store to request a replacement if they suspect their device is faulty.
Apart from overheating concerns, another widely circulated video demonstrated the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s back glass shattering after being bent with bare hands. This unexpected fragility raised questions about the durability of the device, particularly considering its titanium frame.
Apple has addressed one aesthetic issue related to the iPhone 15. They publicly acknowledged that “for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the oil from your skin might temporarily alter the color of the outside band.” However, they provided a solution: users can restore the original appearance by wiping the device with a “soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.”
To address various issues, Apple has encouraged all new iPhone customers to download the latest software upgrade, iOS 17.0.2, which provides essential bug fixes, and security updates, and resolves an issue that could hinder data transfer from another iPhone during setup.
