New ‘Not a Bot’ Model: X Introduces $1 Subscription for Basic Features

In a bid to address the persistent challenge of bots and spammers, Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has unveiled a new subscription model named “Not A Bot.” The innovative initiative, which comes with a nominal annual fee of $1, aims to bring about a more authentic and engaging user experience.

Under the “Not A Bot” subscription, users will be charged for actions such as liking, reposting, quoting other users’ posts, and bookmarking posts, but exclusively on the web version of the platform. This move is designed to create a more genuine and interactive space while discouraging automated and spammy activities that have plagued the platform.

One noteworthy feature of this subscription model is that the fees will be adjusted based on exchange rates, meaning that users in different countries may experience varying pricing structures. Initially, this new subscription service will be introduced to users in New Zealand and the Philippines, allowing the platform to test the waters and gather feedback before expanding further.

Importantly, existing users will remain unaffected by these changes during the testing phase. However, for new users who choose not to subscribe, their capabilities will be limited, restricting them to viewing and reading posts, watching videos, and following other accounts. This approach encourages new users to consider the “Not A Bot” subscription for a fuller and more interactive experience.

The issue of bots and spam has long been a concern, especially since entrepreneur Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform last year. To counter this challenge, X introduced tweet-viewing limitations in July, a measure aimed at safeguarding the authenticity of its user base.

In a recent development, it was reported that X’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, met with the platform’s lenders to discuss plans for testing three tiers of the subscription service. These tiers would be based on the number of ads shown to users, potentially offering users a more personalized experience while generating revenue for the platform.

As Social Media Platform X, formerly Twitter, continues to evolve and adapt to the changing digital landscape, “Not A Bot” represents a step forward in combating bots and enhancing the overall quality of the platform’s user experience. With this new subscription model, users can look forward to a cleaner and more engaging environment on the platform, reinforcing its commitment to authenticity and user satisfaction.
