On Friday, Tesla launched a restyled Model 3 with a lengthy driving range in China and other markets including the Middle East, Europe, Japan, and Australia, setting the tension on competitors who are anticipated to reveal new electric vehicles in the next few days.
In China the revived version of the Model 3 arrived with a starting price 12 percent higher than the last, base rear-wheel drive model, flipping a trend toward cost cuts that had flashed a cost battle between Tesla and its Chinese EV competitors.
The new version of the Model 3 was Tesla’s first new car since it introduced its international best-seller in 2020. Tesla intends to begin production of its Cybertruck later this year.
The rollout of the Model 3 in China and markets to which Tesla exports from its manufacturing center there recommended that its Shanghai plant would be the first to produce the model. Tesla also produces the Model 3 at its plant in Fremont, California.
According to the company’s website, the upgraded Model 3 vows a lengthy driving range for China. The standard version has a ranked range of 606 km (377 miles) based on Chinese testing standards. That’s almost 9 percent higher than the base model it substitutes in China.
Tesla said it had begun accepting orders and would start deliveries in China in the fourth quarter. In Australia, deliveries were placed for January.
In China, Tesla’s new Model 3 begins at 259,900 yuan ($35,807.78), the firm’s website showed on Friday.
