Twitter Announces Expansion of Video Upload Limit to Two Hours and 8GB

In a move to further enhance its video capabilities, Twitter has raised the limit for video uploads on its platform. Previously, Twitter allowed users to upload videos with a maximum duration of 10 minutes, which was later extended to 60 minutes. Now, the limit has been significantly expanded to two hours and 8GB for paid users, providing them with ample space to upload longer videos, including full-length movies.

The announcement came from Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, in a tweet where he stated, “Twitter Blue Verified subscribers can now upload 2-hour videos (8GB)!” This development aligns with Musk’s vision of transforming Twitter into an all-encompassing app that can rival other video-centric platforms like YouTube.

Under Musk’s leadership, Twitter has been actively introducing features to support lengthier video content and improve the overall video-watching experience. The platform launched the long video upload feature in December of last year, enabling users to share videos with extended durations. More recently, Twitter introduced new playback speed controls for web users, further enhancing the platform’s video capabilities.

Musk has expressed his ambition to turn Twitter into an “everything app” and has rolled out several updates to achieve this goal. In addition to expanding the video upload limit, Twitter has increased the character limit to 10,000 for paid users and revamped its Super Follows feature as Subscriptions. These efforts aim to provide users with more tools and monetization options, expanding the possibilities of engagement and content creation on the platform.

However, Musk’s tenure at Twitter has not been without controversy. Since taking over in late October, he has made several controversial decisions, including laying off a significant portion of the company’s workforce, reinstating banned accounts, suspending journalists, and introducing charges for previously free services. These actions have raised concerns among advertisers, leading some to reconsider their presence on the platform due to worries about brand association with contentious content.

Despite the challenges and controversies, Twitter continues to evolve under Musk’s leadership. The expansion of the video upload limit showcases the platform’s commitment to catering to the needs of its users and positioning itself as a multimedia hub. By offering extended video capabilities, Twitter aims to solidify its position as a leading social media platform and compete with other video-focused platforms in the ever-evolving online landscape.
