On the 100th day of the ongoing actors’ strike, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, the lead negotiator for the union, expressed unwavering optimism that a resolution will ultimately be reached, even as formal negotiations remain on hold.
In an exclusive conversation with Deadline, Crabtree-Ireland commended the remarkable unity and commitment displayed by the union’s members throughout this lengthy strike. He remarked, “I find it truly impressive – the unity and the unwavering commitment of our members. As evident on the picket lines, our members are wholeheartedly invested in this cause. Our strike captains remain a constant presence, and everyone who attends rallies shares a common purpose that will undoubtedly guide us to a resolution.”
Addressing the protracted nature of the negotiations, Crabtree-Ireland admitted, “I had not anticipated that the negotiations would stretch on for this long. The prolonged period without meaningful negotiations is truly indefensible. The studios and streaming platforms should have been back at the negotiation table with us much sooner. They should have been there within the first 80 days, but regrettably, they were not.”
However, his optimism remained unshaken as he continued, “I am eager to witness their return to the table, and I believe it will happen in the near future. There’s considerable external pressure to bring the parties back to the negotiating table, so my optimism leads me to believe that this will transpire shortly. In any case, we remain resolute and committed to securing a fair deal.”
In a significant turn of events, a group of A-list actors, spearheaded by the illustrious George Clooney, recently extended an offer of $150 million to the union. The proposal is seen as a potential avenue to bring an end to the strike and reestablish collaboration with the studios.
As the strike reaches its centenary, the determination of actors and the hope for a resolution remain unwavering, serving as a testament to the strength of unity within the industry. The entertainment world watches with bated breath, eager for a resolution that will benefit all parties involved.
