Angelina Jolie Opens Up About Life-Changing Lessons From Upcoming Film Maria

Angelina Jolie, known for her transformative roles, has revealed how playing opera icon Maria Callas in the upcoming biographical drama Maria profoundly impacted her life. During a candid appearance on Good Morning America, the Academy Award-winning actress shared the emotional and therapeutic journey she experienced while preparing for the role.

Jolie reflected on how life’s experiences manifest within us, saying, “We don’t often realize how much we carry within our bodies — the experiences, emotions, and traumas. Everything gets locked inside to help us keep moving forward. To truly sing, to express fully, you have to unlock all of that.”

Recalling her first singing lesson, Jolie shared a vulnerable yet humorous moment. “I took a deep breath, cried my heart out, and then just left!” she laughed.

In an interview with Variety, Jolie elaborated on the emotional depth of her preparation for the role, describing the process of learning to sing as the “best therapy” she’s ever had.

“Honestly, I’d recommend singing lessons to anyone before diving into therapy,” she said. “There’s something primal about discovering your voice within your own body. It’s incredibly healing. It helped me confront emotions I didn’t even know I was holding onto.”

Jolie emphasized how singing pushed her to face both her feelings and limitations. “To sing with full voice and emotion, you have to acknowledge and release what’s inside. It’s a deeply honest and cathartic process.”

Directed by Pablo Larraín, Maria promises to offer an intimate portrayal of the life and struggles of the legendary soprano Maria Callas. The film, which captures Callas’s artistic brilliance and personal turmoil, is set to release in theaters on November 27, 2024.

Fans eagerly await Jolie’s performance, which is already generating buzz for its emotional depth and authenticity. With her latest revelations, it’s clear that Jolie has poured her heart and soul into the role, making Maria one of the most anticipated films of the year.
