Anne Hathaway recently shared her challenges while filming the final scenes of her highly praised romantic comedy The Idea of You. The 42-year-old actress admitted she was in poor health during the movie’s climax, making it difficult to perform in what would become one of the film’s most significant moments.
Despite being physically unwell, Hathaway pushed through and delivered a standout performance. She described how her health condition almost made it impossible to complete the scenes but credited her co-star Nicholas Galitzine for helping her power through.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hathaway revealed, “I wasn’t just running on empty, I’d eaten the tank, and I was physically [doing] poorly. I didn’t know how I was going to do it.”
Hathaway praised Galitzine, 30, for being a “rock” during this difficult time. According to her, he “poured energy into me,” allowing her to stay in the moment and give just enough for her performance. She continued, “I had exactly enough left for whatever was happening, and I just needed to not blow it.”
During these intense moments, Galitzine took on the major physical demands of the scenes while Hathaway focused on reacting emotionally.
It wasn’t just Galitzine who supported Hathaway—director Michael Showalter was also there for her throughout the challenging situation, ensuring she was able to finish the film despite her physical struggles.
The Idea of You has since become one of the most beloved films of 2024, with much of its success attributed to the incredible on-screen chemistry between Hathaway and Galitzine. Their dynamic became a key part of the film’s emotional depth and widespread praise.
