Benny Blanco is getting candid about his relationship with Selena Gomez—and the surprising detail he only recently discovered about her past. During a recent appearance on the Therapuss With Jake Shane podcast, the 37-year-old record producer revealed that he had never seen Selena’s iconic Disney Channel series, Wizards of Waverly Place, before dating her.
Blanco confessed that while he was aware of Gomez’s early fame as a child star, he didn’t know much about the show itself.
“I knew she was, like, a kid star, but I had never seen any of it,” he admitted.
He jokingly added that the only part he recognized was the theme song, thanks to Billie Eilish, who sampled it in her hit track “Bad Guy.”
At first, Gomez was reportedly hesitant about watching her old series with Blanco. However, she eventually agreed to show him a few select scenes. After watching, Blanco had a change of heart.
“I get it,” he said, acknowledging the show’s charm and Selena’s connection to it.

Selena Gomez originally rose to fame playing Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverly Place, which ran from 2007 to 2012 and became a Disney Channel classic. She recently reprised her beloved role in the reboot Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, and she is set to return for the second season.
Blanco’s honest revelation not only gave fans a glimpse into the couple’s dynamic but also highlighted how their relationship bridges different backgrounds. While Gomez built her career in front of the camera from a young age, Blanco worked behind the scenes in the music industry—making their connection all the more meaningful as they continue learning about each other’s pasts.
