In a significant development, members of the South Korean girl group BLACKPINK have decided not to pursue solo activities as part of their renewed contract with YG Entertainment. The media agency issued an official statement through Herald Pop on December 29, clarifying the terms of the renewed contracts for Jisoo, Rosé, Jennie, and Lisa.
The statement from YG Entertainment highlighted that the renewed contracts are exclusively focused on group activities. It stated, “Hello, this is YG Entertainment. BLACKPINK recently renewed their contracts with YG for their group activities, and we have agreed not to proceed with additional contracts for [the members’] individual activities. We will do our utmost to support BLACKPINK’s activities, and we will cheer on the members’ individual activities with warm hearts.”
This decision comes after the widely renowned K-pop group renewed their contracts with YG earlier in the month. While under their previous contract with the agency, each member had already embarked on solo ventures. Jennie released her solo single “Solo” in 2018, and subsequent full-length albums were released by Rosé, Lisa, and Jisoo.
Notably, Jennie recently announced the establishment of her own label, OA or ODD ATELIER, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit. Meanwhile, Jisoo, the oldest member of BLACKPINK, has been delving into the acting realm, demonstrating her versatility in the entertainment industry.
As BLACKPINK continues their journey, the decision not to pursue solo activities in the renewed contracts signals a collective focus on their group endeavors. Fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming group projects while also celebrating the individual pursuits of the members in various creative realms.
