BLACKPINK’s Lisa, a prominent member of the renowned K-pop girl group, is now contending with potential repercussions in response to her recent performance, which has sparked widespread criticism, particularly in Asian regions.
The concerns are escalating, suggesting that the K-pop sensation may face a potential ban from China due to her risqué performance at the prestigious Crazy Horse cabaret in Paris. During the performance, Lisa, whose real name is Lalisa Manobal, delivered a burlesque-themed show, which involved dancing on stage while donning provocative lingerie and ensembles.
China’s largest social media platform, Weibo, has taken action by suspending Lisa’s account. The notice on her Weibo handle stated, “This account can no longer be viewed due to reports of violations of laws, regulations, and Weibo community agreement.” However, an official explanation for the suspension is yet to be provided by the platform.
Additionally, the fallout from the controversial performance has affected Angelababy, a well-known Chinese actress and model. Her Weibo and Douyin (a Chinese TikTok equivalent) accounts have also been suspended amid rumors that she was present at one of Lisa’s performances.
The consequences stemming from this incident highlight the impact of cross-border controversies in the world of entertainment, particularly within the context of sensitive cultural and societal norms in various regions.
