Actress Blake Lively has broken her silence through her legal team following the news that Taylor Swift was subpoenaed in the ongoing legal case involving Lively’s It Ends With Us co-star, Justin Baldoni.
The 37-year-old star issued a firm statement, accusing Baldoni’s legal team of turning a serious case into a media spectacle. “This is a serious legal matter—not Barnum & Bailey’s Circus,” Lively’s spokesperson stated, taking direct aim at the opposing party’s alleged tactics.
According to People magazine, the statement criticized Baldoni, producer Steve Sarowitz, and their team for making a mockery of a case centered on sexual harassment and retaliation. “They’ve gone as far as suggesting Ms. Lively’s deposition be held at Madison Square Garden, and they even subpoenaed Taylor Swift—a global music icon who simply licensed her song ‘My Tears Ricochet’ for the film and had no involvement in its production.”
The Gossip Girl alum’s rep went on to say that the defendants are engaging in public intimidation and are actively working to undermine the rights and reputations of women involved in the case.
This legal tension escalated on May 9, when Taylor Swift—previously known to share a close friendship with Lively—was unexpectedly pulled into the lawsuit. Swift’s legal team promptly responded, clarifying that the pop star had no role in the film beyond the use of her music. “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie,” a spokesperson emphasized.
