Bowen Yang recently opened up about his time working with Ariana Grande on the highly anticipated film adaptation of Wicked.
In a special video feature for Them magazine, the 33-year-old comedian shared insights while transforming with the help of Jan Sport, a former contestant from RuPaul’s Drag Race. During the interview, Yang fondly recounted a memorable day on set that included a tarot card reading conducted by Grande.
“Ari had brought along a deck of queer tarot cards and was doing a three-card pull,” Yang reminisced. “She was completely in her element, giving us all tarot readings. I jokingly told her, ‘You should consider this as a backup career!'”
With a chuckle, he added, “Just think about it—Ariana Grande, of all people, being bad at singing? That’s hard to imagine!”
For those unfamiliar, Bowen Yang and Ariana Grande are co-starring in the two-part film adaptation of Wicked, alongside Cynthia Erivo. The storyline follows two students at Shiz University in the enchanting Land of Oz, who develop an unexpected and profound friendship. However, their bond is tested after a significant encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, leading them down divergent paths.
Wicked is set to hit theaters on November 22, 2024, and fans are eagerly awaiting this reimagining of the beloved Broadway musical.
