Brad Pitt has escalated his legal dispute with ex-wife Angelina Jolie, filing new paperwork to request a series of private emails tied to her sale of Château Miraval. The ongoing feud over the French winery began in February 2022 and shows no signs of slowing down.
According to the filing obtained by Page Six, Pitt is seeking Jolie’s emails with her business manager Terry Bird, British publicists Arminka Helic and Chloe Dalton, and two financial advisers. Pitt argues these communications, described as “brainstorming sessions between non-lawyers,” should be available for discovery.
Pitt maintains that even if the emails coincided with legal guidance, they are still relevant: “The fact that these brainstorming sessions may have followed or preceded advice from a lawyer on the same general topic or a related topic does not shield them from discovery.”
To date, Pitt claims Jolie has only produced a single internal email referencing the sale at the heart of their dispute. He insists the missing emails could include Bird’s discussions about the terms of Jolie’s sale of her Miraval stake to the Stoli Parties, calling it “the key transaction at issue in this litigation.”
Additionally, Pitt has requested that the court deny Jolie’s motion for him to pay $33,000 in attorneys’ fees. Jolie’s team argued that she warned him to drop a previous motion and would seek fees if he proceeded. Her lawyer, Paul Murphy, criticized Pitt’s latest request, saying it “once again confirms that this lawsuit is the manifestation of Mr. Pitt’s years-long effort to harass and control Angelina.”
The legal dispute started after Jolie sold her share of Château Miraval to Stoli Group’s wine division, a transaction Pitt claims occurred without his consent. Jolie maintains she was legally entitled to complete the sale independently.
